How to choose the right crate size for my pet ?
To be able to buy the right size of crate for your pet, you need to measure your pet in inches according to the diagram below.
• Add 5" to Measurement A. This should be the minimum internal length of the crate / kennel.
• Add 4" to Measurement B. This should be the minimum internal height of the crate / kennel.
Note: Basically, the pet needs to be able to sit, stand and turn around comfortably in the crate. Most airlines are very particular about the comfort of the crate for your pet.
Kindly contact Furry Flyers to purchase a crate / kennel made to IATA specifications. We will advice you on the suitable size required for your pet.
There are six different readymade fibre crate sizes available. We even custom make wooden crates to IATA specifications in case your pet needs a larger crate than the largest available readymade size.
Does Furry Flyers provide crates for rent ?
We do not rent crates, since the cost of return shipment generally exceeds the value of the crate. Most pets are usually more relaxed when travelling in their own familiar crate that does not have any residual scent from unknown animals that previously travelled in the same crate.
Will there be provision for food and water in the crate ?
Furry Flyers provide bowls for food and water in the crate, which is suitable according to the size of dog and the shape and size of his snout. We provide a system in which food and water can be topped up from outside, without the airline staff having to open the crate. An extra feeding is also provided, which will be useful in case of emergency situations.
How much in advance to travel date should I buy the pet crate / kennel for my pet ?
Best to purchase the crate at least 20 days in advance to travel date. The earlier the better, as some pets almost immediately take to the crate as their new home, while others take longer.
Contact Furry Flyers pet relocation specialist to know how to get your pet used to the crate for travel. Each pet’s temperament is different and you will be advised accordingly.
