Microchipping for pets enter into India

We would highly recommend that your pet be microchipped before his/her entry into India. We cannot be sure when microchipping might become compulsory for a pet imported in to India.

 What is a microchip ?

It a unique identity no. and no two pets anywhere in the world will share the same microchip no. The most universally accepted microchip is 15 digit that conform to International Organization for Standardization standards ISO 11784 and ISO 11785.

Microchips are as small or smaller than a grain of rice. The chip is injected by the Vet with a syringe and records the chip's unique ID. No anaesthetic is required. It does not hurt the pet or nor has it been proved to be harmful in any way to the pet.

In dogs and cats, chips are usually inserted below the skin at the back of the neck between the shoulder blades on the dorsal midline.

As long as the microchip reads/scans the no., the microchip can remain in the pet’s body for life any there is no requirement for insertion of a second microchip, unless the existing microchip becomes dysfunctional (does not read). This happens in rare cases.
